MOS Qualification: Soldiers do not have to be MOS qualified to apply; however, must be able to be awarded the MOS in accordance with DA PAM 611-21.

  • (a) A minimum score of 105 in aptitude area ST and 110 in aptitude area GT in Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests administered prior to 2 January 2002.
  • (b) A minimum score of 102 in aptitude area ST and 110 in aptitude area GT on ASVAB tests administered on and after 2 January 2002 and prior to 1 July.
  • (c) A minimum score of 101 in aptitude area ST and 107 in aptitude area GT on ASVAB tests administered on and after 1 July 2004.
  • Security clearance: Per AR 600-8-19, promotion to MSG and SGM requires an interim eligibility clearance or higher.
  • Civilian Education: Have a high school diploma or GED equivalency

  1. Must successfully pass the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) and possess/maintain current State (or United States Territory) license as practical or vocational nurse for initial award and retention in MOS 68C. Licensure must be verified before assigning overseas.
  2. No history of alcoholism, drug addiction, indiscriminate use of habit-forming or dangerous drugs. No drug or alcohol diagnosis of dependency or addiction.
  3. No history of a felony conviction.
  4. No history of conviction of crimes involving:

(1) An out of hospital patient or a patient or resident of a medical care facility.

(2) Financial exploitation of a person entrusted to a care of the applicant.

(3) Any weapons/ammunition/explosives/arson charges.

(4) Any drug activity involving illegal possession, buying, selling, or distribution (dealing) of controlled substances or synthetics.

(5) Violence against persons or property.

(6) Sexual misconduct or abuse of a child, elder or spouse.

(f) No record of conviction by special or general courts-martial or civilian courts of offenses listed in AR 27-10 (Military Justice) chapter 24 or otherwise required to register as a sexual offender under AR 27-10, chapter 24.

  

General Criteria:

  • Applicants cannot be under suspension of favorable actions, must have a current, valid record APFT and current weigh-in IAW Army body composition standards. Applicants must meet the position security clearance requirement. Soldiers without a current PHA may apply but, if selected, will not be promoted until the PHA is current.
  • CLASP: Refer to current MIARNG CLASP Policy to determine whether a waiver is needed. Further CLASP information (including technician compatibility information) is available from the MIARNG HRO office. If a waiver is required, blank forms and memo templates are posted to SharePoint under Enlisted Promotion Management -> SWVA -> CLASP templates. Promotion, lateral appointment, and reassignment are contingent on approval of the CLASP waiver. The effective date of promotion, lateral appointment, and reassignment will be the date the CLASP waiver is approved.
  • Formal training:(b) Have successfully completed State approved course in practical, or vocational nursing. (d) Proficiency training must be performed under supervision of an Army nurse corps officer or NCO (SSG and above) qualified in MOS 68C at initial duty assignment.
  • (e) Persons enrolled in an approved practical or vocational nurse program having satisfactory academic standings with reasonable assurance of successfully completing the course, may be enlisted in the DEP or USAR when they are within 6 months of graduation. Individuals must successfully complete the practical or vocational nursing course, receive State license, and satisfy training requirements of the ACASP to be qualified for the award of MOS 68C. Promotions above grade of SPC will be under AR 140-158 or AR 600-8-19. Failure to meet the above requirements for award of MOS 68C will result in re-classification for the needs of the Army.
  • (c) Must have successfully passed the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) and possess current State (or United States Territory) license as practical or vocational nurse. Licensure must be verified before assigning overseas.
  • (a) Complete the Practical Nursing Specialist Course, MOS 68C, conducted under auspices of Army Medical Department Center and School and Medical Education Training Campus; or meet the Army Civilian Acquired Skills Program (ACASP) criteria per paragraph 9-5b(5)(b) of this pamphlet and in paragraphs (b) through (e) for Practical Nursing Specialist.
