Chief Master Sergeant Trever J. Slater is the State Command Chief Master Sergeant for the Michigan Air National Guard. He advises The Adjutant General and the Commander of the Michigan Air National Guard on matters influencing the health, morale, and welfare of the assigned enlisted personnel and their families.
Chief Slater enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1993 as an engineering apprentice at the Battle Creek Air National Guard Base. His background includes construction design and management, engineering superintendent and firefighting craftsman. He has participated in Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, JTF KATRINA, ENDURING FREEDOM and SOUTHERN WATCH. During these operations, Chief Slater planned and executed construction and humanitarian projects in support of national interests in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq and Israel. He also aided Hurricane Katrina victims in Mississippi by deploying immediately following the natural disaster. In 2011 he became the Chief of Operations for the 110th Civil Engineer Squadron. Chief Slater served as the Wing Command Chief for the 110th Wing prior to his current assignment. He assumed his current position in September 2017. Chief Slater also served the Air National Guard on the Enlisted Field Advisory Council as the Region 4 Alternate.
Chief Slater has been employed with the Michigan State Police since 1998 where he has been assigned as a road patrol Trooper, undercover narcotics detective, criminal interdiction Trooper, Specialist Sergeant in the Fire Investigation Unit and currently is a Detective First Lieutenant in the Special Investigation Division/Field Resource Section serving as the section commander.
