Brigadier General Scott L. Meyers

Assistant Adjutant General - Initiatives

BG Meyers is the current Michigan National Guard Assistant Adjutant General-Initiatives. He provides oversight of the National All-Domain Warfighting Center and is responsible for all Michigan National Guard Recruiting, Army Installations and Facilities Management as well as HR activities within the Department. Previously he commanded the 272d RSG after commanding two Battalions, both the Recruiting and Retention Battalion and a three-year Battalion Command of the 1-119th Field Artillery Regiment (M777A2). In addition, he was the Director of Human Resources for the Michigan Army and Air National Guard as a GS-14. Prior to being the Director of Human Resources, he served as the Director of Surface Maintenance responsible for directing and managing all 16 Surface Maintenance facilities and operations. BG Meyers attended Western Michigan University, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration. He has completed resident Air War College with a Master's Degree in Strategic Studies where he became JPME 2 qualified as well as Command and General Staff College (ILE and AOC) and Field Artillery Advance and Basic Course.  

BG Meyers began his military career in 1989 with Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky.  He then completed Aero Scout Training at Fort Rucker, Alabama, learning to fly and crew the OH-58 helicopter.  He continued his enlisted career, attending Primary Leadership Developmental Course, and Cold Weather Survival Course as well as numerous other military schools for six years before attending federal Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning Georgia, commissioning as a Second Lieutenant in 1995.

BG Meyers’ previous assignments include Firing Battery Platoon Leader 1-182d  MLRS, Battery Firing Direction Officer; Battery Executive Officer; Battery Commander Charlie Battery 1-182d MLRS; Security Force Company Commander deployed to Baghdad, Iraq 2005;  Director Surface Maintenance Michigan National Guard; Battalion Executive Officer 1-182d FA; Battalion Executive Officer 1-119th FA, Battalion (deployed to Iraq / Kuwait 2010), 1-119th FA  Battalion Commander, MIARNG Recruiting and Retention Commander, Director of Human Resources MING, 272d RSG Commander. 

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Reserve Component Achievement Medal, the National Defense Ribbon 2nd award, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NCO Professional Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Broadsword Ribbon 7th award, Michigan Distinguished Service Medal, Michigan Overseas Service Ribbon, the Aviator Crewman’s Badge  and the Army’s Combat Action Badge and various other individual and unit awards.  BG Meyers is also a recipient of the GEN Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award, the Brigadier General Mathieu Award for Excellence and has been awarded the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.

BG Meyers is married to the former Heather Ann Woods. They have a daughter Reagann who also serves in the Michigan Army National Guard as a Second Lieutenant.
