Michigan National Guard recruiter Staff Sgt. Richard Arter takes a moment to remember the details of a highway accident involving a Michigan family coming home from vacation. Arter was a first responder, actively directing other emergency personnel while extracting a three-year old girl from the back seat of a crashed vehicle. The plaque and postcard were presented to Arter by surviving members of the accident and supporting family. Arter's actions demonstrate the unique readiness and preparation of the National Guard.
