 The Human Resources Office (HRO) is committed to enhancing the Michigan National Guard’s (MING) mission through timely and efficient personnel support to the full-time workforce.  HRO attracts, develops, and retains a highly-skilled full-time military and civilian workforce capable of enabling readiness through exceptional service to service members, the State of Michigan, and our Nation.

Force Management – Staffing and Classification

The Force Management Branch provides comprehensive Recruitment, Placement, Compensation and Position Management services to further enhance the full-time mission of the Michigan National Guard.

Employee Relations – Benefits and Compensation

The Benefits and Compensation section provides comprehensive services that include advising on retirement benefits and entitlements, offering technical guidance on the Mass Transit Program, assisting with Reasonable Accommodations, Telework, and Military Buy Backs, and providing expertise on leave policies such as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Paid Parental leave (PPL), and the Voluntary Leave Program. 

Active Guard Reserve – Army AGR

The AGR section provides professional, customer-focused personnel and career services for the Michigan National Guard AGR Program. 

Labor Relations

The Labor Relations section provides comprehensive labor relations, adverse action, and disciplinary services for the Michigan National Guard Military Technician Program.

Performance Management and Employee Relations 

The Performance Management and Employee Relations section guides the Performance Management Program, supports supervisors and managers in preparing performance standards and appraisals, and provides labor relations, adverse action, and disciplinary services for the Michigan National Guard Federal Technician Program.

Hiring Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. I applied for a Title 5 or Title 32 job but was not referred or considered. Why wasn’t I qualified?

Several factors may affect your qualification status:

• Ensure all questions in the Assessment Questionnaire are answered completely, as they determine your eligibility.

• Verify that your resume is in the correct format, as stated in the job announcement. Required details include job title, organization (with address), time period at each job (MM/YY), and hours worked per pay period. Using the USA Jobs resume builder is recommended.

• Submit all required documents listed in the job announcement; missing documents may disqualify you.

• Each job has at least two Qualification Standards that determine if applicants are minimally qualified.

• If you still have questions about your referral status, submit an inquiry to the appropriate email listed in the job announcement.

 

2. How long after my interview can I expect to hear back on a decision?

• Typically, hiring decisions take two to four months, though some positions may move faster.

• Be sure to check your Junk Mail/Spam folder, as notifications may be sent there.

 

3. How do I know if I qualify for Veteran’s Preference?

• Veteran’s Preference eligibility is based on time in service. For details, refer to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) website:

4. Can someone review my resume before I apply to see if I’m on the right track?

• Yes! You can send your resume, along with a link to the job posting, at least one week before the job announcement closes to the email specified in the job posting.
